NYATS Election Notification and Guidelines for the term year starting April 30th 2026
Introduction
New York Albany Tamil Sangam (NYATS) is incorporated in New York State as a non-profit entity, and it has been in existence since 2014. NYATS’s current officers will complete their two-year term in April 2026.
The Election Committee is charged with the task of soliciting nominations & conducting elections for NYATS. We are commencing the selection process for the upcoming two-year term (2026-2028) for NYATS
The Election Committee is in charge of and responsible for any appeals, and it is charged with the task of resolving any disputes the candidates may have.
Accordingly, the Election Committee is inviting nominations for the positions listed below. The title and the number of positions open for nomination, applicable rules, deadlines, and nominating forms are provided as well. Any additional information on incorporation and governance guidelines can be obtained from the NYATS website.

Nomination
A candidate nominates himself/herself. . A candidate must have been a member in 2025 and must be a NYATS member in 2026 and have the primary residence within the NY Capital Region. Nomination forms shall be accepted from 02/12/2026.
A candidate nominates himself/herself by filling an online nomination form. The nomination can be submitted only by the internet link https://tinyurl.com/NYATS-
Upon receipt of the nomination, the election committee will confirm the receipt of the nomination by email. If you do not receive this confirmation within 24-48 hours, call one of the election committee members.
Upon verification of membership details, the candidate will be added to the slate of candidates.
The actual process of the electronic voting will be communicated as soon as it is finalized.
The deadline for nominations is March 1st 2026.
Withdrawal
All the nominated applicants can withdraw their nomination by the cut-off date specified. Withdrawal deadline is March 4th 2026. Withdrawal must be sent in by an email to Election Committee at
Election.Committee@
After verification of the nominations, the Election Committee shall publish and update the list of nominees and the slate of candidates on NYATS website.
Open Positions:
Executive Committee Member – 15 positions
A candidate may hold just one position at any given time. After the election results have been declared, elected committee members shall elect officers namely President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Voting
Elections for the 15 positions will be conducted, if there are more than 15 candidates. If such an election is held, each member may cast up to 15 votes. A member may choose to cast fewer than 15 votes, if he/she wants to.
It is anticipated that the NYATS election will be conducted via electronic balloting for 48 hours on March 7th -March 9th (the mode of electronic voting will be announced if it is conducted).
Each member wishing to cast a vote in the election must have a valid email on file with NYATS (see board members’ contacts below). In case of family membership, a separate email is required for each spouse to exercise two votes. Please contact the board members to provide/update your email addresses ASAP. We consider this to be members’ responsibility to keep their contact details up to date with
NYATS. Members are allowed to update details through March 4th 2026.
Details of voting procedures will be communicated to the NYATS members at a later date.
The election committee anticipates completing the election process by March 11th 2026.
Elected candidates will assume office on March 31st , 2026 giving sufficient time to initiate and complete transition with the outgoing team. Should there be no need for elections, then the election committee shall consider declaring the results at an earlier date.
